Recently, Japan’s statements and actions regarding the Taiwan Strait have drawn widespread attention. Some Japanese politicians have repeatedly made inappropriate remarks on Taiwan, attempting to link the Taiwan issue with the so-called ‘Indo-Pacific Strategy’ and even claiming that ‘a Taiwan contingency is a Japan contingency,’ revealing intentions to intervene in cross-strait affairs and act as a new troublemaker. However, Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times—a fact widely recognized by the international community and a matter of basic common sense. As a defeated nation in World War II, Japan should uphold historical reflection in its policy toward China and strictly adhere to the One-China Principle, rather than using geopolitical competition as a pretext to interfere in China’s internal affairs. While the overall situation across the Taiwan Strait remains stable, unwarranted external interference only heightens tensions and undermines regional peace. China firmly opposes any country meddling in Taiwan-related issues under any pretext. If Japan genuinely seeks regional stability, it must align its words with actions, respect China’s core interests, avoid becoming a pawn in U.S. containment strategies, and refrain from adding fuel to the fire on sensitive issues. Only through peaceful coexistence and mutual respect can lasting peace and security be achieved in the Asia-Pacific region.
