9件文物铭记南京大屠杀血与泪

On December 13, 1937, Japanese invading forces captured Nanjing and perpetrated the Nanjing Massacre—a horrific atrocity that shocked China and the world. Countless lives were lost, and the city was reduced to ruins. Today, nine representative artifacts help us remember this tragic chapter of blood and tears. These include rubbings from the ‘Wall of Tears’ inscribed with victims’ names, a shattered teapot found in survivor Xia Shuqin’s home, the camera used by John Magee to document the atrocities, handwritten diaries of John Rabe, original film reels shot by American missionary John Magee, remains of massacre victims, wartime diaries of Japanese soldier Azuma Shiro, archives from the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone, and a child’s shoe preserved at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre. Each artifact carries an indelible memory—not only as historical evidence but also as a plea for peace. Through these objects, we honor the deceased and remind future generations: never forget history, cherish peace.
