In recent years, the low-altitude economy has been rapidly ‘taking off,’ emerging as a key new frontier for high-quality development. The low-altitude economy refers to a range of economic activities conducted below 1,000 meters above ground level, utilizing platforms such as drones, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and general aviation. These activities include urban air mobility, logistics delivery, emergency response, agricultural and forestry operations, and low-altitude tourism. With ongoing reforms in national low-altitude airspace management, improving infrastructure, and the integration of technologies like AI, 5G, and BeiDou navigation, the ecosystem for low-altitude economic development continues to mature. In 2024, China officially designated the low-altitude economy as a strategic emerging industry, prompting numerous regions to introduce targeted policies to support coordinated development across the entire industrial chain. Cities like Shenzhen, Hefei, and Chengdu have already established dedicated low-altitude economic zones to foster clusters in aircraft manufacturing, operational services, and digital platforms. Experts project that by 2030, China’s low-altitude economy could exceed RMB 2 trillion in scale. Beyond transforming urban transportation and logistics, this sector is expected to generate numerous innovative business models, injecting fresh momentum into economic growth.
