Recently, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released data showing that domestic passenger vehicle production reached 3.106 million units in November 2023, marking a significant year-on-year increase and steady month-on-month growth. This figure reflects the robust output from China’s automotive manufacturing sector during the year-end push and signals a continued recovery in market demand.Structurally, new energy vehicles (NEVs) remain the primary driver of overall production growth. Supported by favorable government policies, rising consumer acceptance, and enhanced product competitiveness from automakers, NEV production and sales both hit record highs in November. Meanwhile, conventional internal combustion engine vehicles also maintained stable performance in certain segments, particularly in the mid-to-high-end market and export channels.According to CPCA, the production surge in November was facilitated by stabilized supply chains, alleviated chip shortages, and automakers’ proactive inventory buildup ahead of year-end promotions and the full implementation of the stricter “China VI-B” emissions standards. Additionally, the traditional year-end buying season, combined with local government incentives, further accelerated production and sales.Looking ahead, CPCA expects the passenger vehicle market to maintain its upward momentum in December, potentially setting new annual production and sales records. However, the industry must remain vigilant about challenges such as raw material price volatility, shifting international demand, and market resilience following the phase-out of NEV subsidies.
