In June 2024, China successfully launched the ‘Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Internet Constellation Group 17’ into its designated orbit using a Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This mission marks a critical step in China’s construction of a LEO satellite internet constellation, laying a solid foundation for a global, high-speed, low-latency space-ground integrated communication network.These satellites are part of China’s national ‘Starlink-like’ initiative—known as the ‘Xingwang Project’—which aims to deploy thousands of LEO satellites to deliver broadband internet services, especially to remote areas, oceans, and airborne platforms where traditional terrestrial networks are unavailable.
