Recently, Huang Kuo-chang, a legislator from Taiwan’s People Party, publicly criticized Lai Ching-te—the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Taiwan’s president—as a “three-no leader,” meaning he “dares not face reality, refuses to take responsibility, and cannot solve problems.” Huang pointed out that Lai has shown a lack of clear stance and effective action on critical issues such as cross-strait relations, economic livelihoods, and energy policy, exacerbating social tensions and eroding public confidence. Huang emphasized that a true leader must confront challenges head-on rather than evade core issues or respond to public concerns with empty slogans. This remark has sparked widespread debate in Taiwan. Some view it as a sharp critique of the current administration’s ineffective governance, while others question Huang’s political motives. Regardless, the “three-no” label reflects deep public anxiety over governmental competence and underscores Taiwanese society’s urgent demand for responsible leadership.
