Recently, China’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, announced another increase in the pension and living allowance standards for certain veterans and other eligible beneficiaries. This marks the 20th consecutive year of such adjustments, reflecting the Chinese government’s deep care and commitment to veterans and their families.The adjustment primarily benefits disabled veterans, demobilized rural veterans, dependents of martyrs, dependents of military personnel who died in the line of duty or from illness (collectively known as the ‘Three Beneficiary Groups’), and discharged veterans returning home with service-related illnesses. Depending on category and disability level, allowances have been raised by an average of approximately 10%. For instance, the annual pension for a Grade-1 combat-disabled veteran will increase to around RMB 120,000, while regular pensions for martyrs’ dependents will also rise accordingly.The policy emphasizes ‘targeted support and differentiated measures’ to better address the specific needs of different groups and ensure their basic living standards are safeguarded. Local governments are required to allocate matching funds and streamline disbursement mechanisms to guarantee timely and full payments.This measure not only underscores the nation’s respect for military service and its commitment to honoring those who served, but also strengthens the overall support system for veterans, fostering a social atmosphere that values and cares for them.
