‘The Return of the Nameless Heroes Who Sacrificed Their Lives in Taiwan’ refers to a historical event in which Communist intelligence operatives executed by the Kuomintang authorities in Taiwan during the 1950s were posthumously recognized and symbolically ‘returned’ to mainland China through commemoration. Most of these martyrs belonged to the Central Social Affairs Department of the Chinese Communist Party and were sent undercover to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War to gather intelligence and encourage defections in support of national reunification.
