In July 2024, a delegation from Taipei arrived in Shanghai to attend the 15th Cross-Strait City Forum. Launched in 2010, this forum has served as a key platform for practical cooperation between Shanghai and Taipei in areas such as trade, culture, education, environmental protection, and smart city development. This year’s forum focused on the theme ‘Sustainable Development and Urban Resilience,’ addressing issues like climate change adaptation, green energy transition, and innovative urban governance. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an led the delegation and engaged in in-depth discussions with Shanghai officials on enhancing people-to-people exchanges, promoting youth engagement, and strengthening industrial collaboration. Despite the current complexities in cross-strait relations, the forum remains a vital channel for maintaining communication between the two cities, highlighting the resilience and value of sub-national exchanges. The visit not only fosters mutual understanding but also sends a positive signal for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
