The People’s Daily recently published a commentary warning that right-wing forces in Japan are hastily attempting to revive the militaristic path of the past—a dangerous trajectory that warrants serious vigilance. The article notes that in recent years, certain Japanese politicians have repeatedly visited the Yasukuni Shrine, whitewashed Japan’s history of aggression, and pushed for military expansion. These actions not only deeply hurt the feelings of neighboring Asian countries but also undermine regional peace and stability. China consistently advocates learning from history to build a better future and urges Japan to face its historical responsibilities squarely, uphold the spirit of its pacifist constitution, and genuinely commit to peaceful development. The commentary calls on the international community to jointly safeguard the outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order to prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies. Should Japan persist in abandoning its pacifist principles, it will not only damage its own international standing but also exert long-term negative effects on the security architecture of the Asia-Pacific region.
