The two regions can deepen collaboration in emerging areas such as Belt and Road initiatives, RMB internationalization, and green finance. National strategies also encourage coordinated development between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port, creating a north-south axis of openness.Overall, Hainan’s customs closure will not replace Hong Kong’s unique role but rather optimize regional economic division of labor. By proactively aligning with Hainan’s needs, Hong Kong can unlock new growth opportunities within China’s evolving development paradigm.
