Recently, a delegation from Taipei City visited the Shanghai Zoo to foster cross-strait exchanges in wildlife conservation and ecological education. Comprising representatives from Taipei’s municipal government as well as experts from environmental and educational sectors, the delegation aimed to learn from Shanghai’s advanced practices in zoo management, endangered species protection, and public science education. Accompanied by staff from the Shanghai Zoo, the visitors toured key areas including the Giant Panda Pavilion, native animal exhibits, and the Ecological Education Center. They also held in-depth discussions on topics such as animal welfare, sustainable zoo operations, and public engagement strategies. Both sides agreed that despite complex political circumstances, there remains significant potential for cooperation on non-political issues like ecological preservation and biodiversity conservation. The visit not only enhanced mutual understanding but also laid a foundation for future practical collaboration between the two cities in environmental and educational fields. Following the trip, the Taipei delegation expressed their intention to study Shanghai’s approaches closely to inform upgrades at Taipei Zoo and voiced hopes for more professional exchanges and knowledge sharing in the future.
