As one of the first countries globally to pilot a CBDC, China has already conducted extensive trials across multiple cities, covering high-frequency use cases such as public transport, government services, and retail shopping. This new action plan is expected to enhance payment system efficiency and security, strengthen financial infrastructure, improve monetary policy transmission, and provide technological support for the internationalization of the renminbi. The central bank emphasized a cautious and secure approach, prioritizing user privacy and data protection while gradually expanding pilot programs and exploring seamless integration with the existing financial system. Importantly, the digital RMB is not intended to replace physical cash but to complement it, helping build a more diverse, convenient, and secure payment ecosystem.
