Recently, Guangzhou announced that Guangzhou Railway Station will officially commence an upgrade project to transform it into a high-speed rail hub. Since its opening in 1974, Guangzhou Station has served as a major terminal for conventional trains and is a key railway gateway in South China. This upgrade is a crucial component of Guangzhou’s 14th Five-Year Plan for transportation, aiming to enhance the city’s integrated transport hub capabilities and optimize regional rail network connectivity.Following the renovation, the station will integrate multiple high-speed rail lines, including the Guangzhou–Zhanjiang HSR and the Guangzhou–Qingyuan–Yongzhou HSR, enabling rapid connections to major cities across the Greater Bay Area. The station itself will undergo modernization, featuring a new elevated waiting hall, streamlined passenger flow design, and smart service facilities to significantly improve the travel experience.The project will be implemented in phases, with full completion targeted before 2030. Upon completion, Guangzhou Station will join Guangzhou South, Guangzhou East, and Baiyun stations to form a ‘four-primary, two-secondary’ railway hub system, reinforcing Guangzhou’s status as a national integrated transport hub. This upgrade will not only alleviate passenger congestion at existing high-speed rail stations but also promote regional economic integration, offering residents and visitors faster and more convenient travel options.
