Recently, Japanese media reported that the Japanese government attempted to contact China via the maritime communication hotline between the defense authorities of China and Japan but did not receive a response. In response, China’s Ministry of National Defense stated that such reports are inconsistent with the facts. China emphasized that communication channels between the defense departments of the two countries remain open and that both sides consistently handle maritime issues based on mutual respect and the principle of managing differences. The Chinese side noted that claims of an ‘unanswered call’ may stem from specific operational or timing-related details rather than any intentional avoidance of dialogue. China has always advocated resolving maritime issues through dialogue and consultation to maintain regional peace and stability. It also urged Japan to adopt a constructive attitude in jointly safeguarding bilateral defense relations and to avoid unwarranted speculation or sensationalism, thereby creating favorable conditions for improving and developing China-Japan relations.
