In April 2025, Venerable Yanjue was elected as the new president of the Buddhist Association of China (BAC) during its 11th National Congress. Born in 1957 in Ningjin County, Hebei Province, Venerable Yanjue ordained at Beijing’s Guangji Temple in 1982 and has long been dedicated to Buddhist education, scriptural research, and monastic administration. He previously served as Vice President of the China Buddhist College, Abbot of Guangji Temple, and since 2020, as Vice President and Secretary-General of the BAC, playing a key role in advancing the Sinicization of Buddhism, nurturing monastic talent, and promoting religious harmony.His election underscores the Chinese Buddhist community’s continued commitment to aligning Buddhism with socialist society in the new era. Venerable Yanjue emphasized adhering to the path of Buddhist Sinicization, exploring Buddhist teachings that resonate with China’s fine traditional culture, and actively contributing to societal well-being.
