Starting in 2024, Guangdong Province will implement a new policy called “One Registration Valid for Three Days.” Under this policy, patients who register and see a doctor for the first time can return for follow-up visits within 72 hours for the same medical condition without needing to re-register or pay another consultation fee. The initiative aims to streamline the outpatient process, reduce patient waiting times and financial burdens, and improve the efficiency of healthcare resource utilization.Previously, many patients had to register multiple times—often due to pending test results or the need for short-term follow-ups—leading to unnecessary costs and inconvenience. With the new rule, as long as patients return to the same department at the same hospital within three days and are seen by the same physician or care team, they can receive continued care without additional registration.It should be noted that this policy applies only to general outpatient services and does not cover emergency care, specialty or premium clinics, or visits across different departments. Patients must still complete the initial registration properly and ensure their follow-up occurs within the 72-hour window. According to Guangdong’s Health Commission, this measure is a key step in advancing the “Internet + Healthcare” reform and may be expanded province-wide or even nationally based on its effectiveness.
