Recently, in response to international inquiries about whether China will continue importing oil from Venezuela, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that China and Venezuela have long maintained mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector, with all trade activities adhering to market principles and international rules. As one of the world’s largest energy consumers, China engages in normal energy cooperation with multiple countries, including Venezuela, which not only helps secure its own energy supply but also supports the economic development of resource-rich nations. The Chinese side emphasized that its oil trade with Venezuela is purely commercial, does not target any third party, and remains unaffected by external pressure. Despite U.S. sanctions on Venezuela, China consistently upholds the principle of respecting national sovereignty and opposes unilateral sanctions and ‘long-arm jurisdiction.’ Therefore, as long as such cooperation complies with international law and market norms, China will continue to advance practical collaboration with Venezuela in energy and other fields. This position reflects China’s commitment to an independent foreign policy of peace and its consistent advocacy for an open global economy.
