In recent years, some schools have required parents to take turns standing guard at school entrances to maintain order and ensure student safety during arrival and dismissal times. While well-intentioned, this practice effectively shifts the responsibility for school safety—legally and ethically belonging to schools and government authorities—onto parents. School safety is a core component of the education system, and its primary responsibility must rest with trained professionals and institutions. Parents, as non-professionals, lack law enforcement authority and proper safety training; mandating their participation not only imposes an unfair burden on families but may also create new risks due to improper handling of incidents. Moreover, blurring the boundaries between home and school responsibilities undermines schools’ accountability and professionalism in safety management. A truly effective school safety system relies on robust security protocols, trained personnel, scientifically designed emergency plans, and adequate government support—not on unpaid parental labor. Educational authorities should explicitly prohibit the delegation of safety duties to parents and reaffirm the principle that professional tasks should be handled by qualified professionals, thereby fostering a safe, orderly, and secure learning environment.
