Wuhan Metro Line 12, the city’s first fully automated subway line, marks a significant step toward intelligent urban rail transit. Spanning approximately 59.9 kilometers with 37 stations, it is Wuhan’s only loop line, connecting the three major urban centers of Hankou, Wuchang, and Hanyang. This critical infrastructure project will greatly alleviate traffic congestion and enhance public transport efficiency.The trains on Line 12 are designed and built to meet the GoA4 (Grade of Automation 4) standard—the highest level of automation—enabling fully unattended operation throughout the entire journey, including wake-up, self-check, depot departure, running, station stops, door operations, return to depot, and sleep modes.Beyond improved punctuality and safety, the fully automated system enables intelligent scheduling to optimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs. Multiple redundant safety mechanisms, obstacle detection systems, and remote monitoring platforms ensure reliable performance under diverse operating conditions.Inside the train, passenger experience is enhanced through human-centered design features such as dynamic information displays, accessibility facilities, and more comfortable seating areas. Scheduled for phased opening in 2025, Line 12 will become one of the longest metro loop lines in China, providing robust transportation support for Wuhan’s development as a national central city.
