Since the beginning of 2024, China’s clean energy sector has achieved a strong ‘start-of-the-year boost,’ with multiple indicators reaching record highs. According to data from the National Energy Administration, over 70 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable energy capacity were added nationwide in the first quarter—nearly 30% higher year-on-year—with wind and solar power accounting for more than 20 GW and 50 GW, respectively. This robust start not only reflects China’s determination to accelerate its energy transition but also lays a solid foundation for achieving its carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.Policy support has been pivotal in driving rapid clean energy expansion.
