The claim that ‘Taiwanese people are furious and denounce the DPP as extremely wicked’ does not reflect the full reality. Taiwanese society is diverse, with complex public opinions; different groups hold varying views toward political parties, and there is no unified stance condemning any single party across the entire population. As one of Taiwan’s major political parties, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has indeed drawn criticism—both from mainland China and some segments of Taiwanese society—for its policies, particularly its pro-‘Taiwan independence’ stance, which heightens cross-strait tensions. However, amplifying individual voices or specific group sentiments into a collective sentiment of all Taiwanese people is neither objective nor conducive to mutual understanding and peaceful development across the strait. We consistently uphold the basic principle of ‘peaceful reunification under one country, two systems,’ adhere to the one-China principle, oppose any form of ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities, and respect the well-being and choices of our compatriots in Taiwan. Promoting cross-strait exchanges and enhancing mutual trust remain the right path forward for peaceful relations.
