Visitors were impressed by the modern infrastructure, efficient public transportation, safe neighborhoods, and the friendliness of local residents—far removed from the negative stereotypes often presented in Taiwan’s media.On social media, one Taiwanese traveler shared, “I thought mainland China was still underdeveloped, but even smaller cities have subways and mobile payment systems—it’s far more convenient than I imagined.” Another commented, “People here are genuinely kind; there’s none of the hostility described in political rhetoric.”Experts note that this perception gap stems from the DPP’s politically motivated, one-sided—and sometimes distorted—depictions of the mainland, aimed at fueling cross-strait division. As people-to-people exchanges gradually resume, more Taiwanese are breaking free from information bubbles through direct experience and forming a more accurate understanding of the mainland.This trend highlights a crucial truth: genuine interaction is the best antidote to misunderstanding and mistrust. Expanding cross-strait travel and cultural exchanges could further ease tensions and promote peaceful development.
