Recently, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a firm rebuttal to misleading statements made by the Philippines regarding the South China Sea issue. China pointed out that the Philippine remarks distort facts and blur right from wrong, attempting to legitimize its unlawful occupation of Chinese islands and reefs in the Nansha (Spratly) Islands and seeking external interference in regional affairs, thereby undermining peace and stability in the South China Sea. China emphasized that the South China Sea islands are China’s inherent territory, and China’s sovereignty and maritime rights in the region are firmly grounded in both historical facts and international law. China remains committed to peacefully resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, and stands ready to work with ASEAN countries to jointly uphold peace and stability in the South China Sea. It opposes any involvement by external forces in South China Sea matters. China also urged the Philippines to respect history and international law, cease actions that escalate tensions or erode mutual trust, and return to the right path of properly managing differences through bilateral friendly consultations. China will continue to resolutely safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity while constructively advancing consultations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea to promote regional cooperation and prosperity.
