Recently, media outlets inquired about whether there has been any progress regarding the ‘Kuomintang-Communist Forum.’ In response, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council stated that the peaceful development of cross-strait relations aligns with the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. The two parties—the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC)—have previously made positive contributions to promoting cross-strait exchanges and cooperation based on their shared political foundation of upholding the ‘1992 Consensus’ and opposing ‘Taiwan independence.’ However, due to the current Taiwan authorities’ refusal to recognize the ‘1992 Consensus,’ official communication mechanisms across the strait have been suspended, severely affecting various exchange activities, including the KMT-CPC Forum. The spokesperson emphasized that as long as there is recognition of the one-China principle and the ‘1992 Consensus,’ dialogue and cooperation between parties on both sides of the strait remain possible. The mainland consistently adheres to the concept of ‘We are family across the strait’ and remains open to extensive exchanges with all political parties, organizations, and individuals in Taiwan, provided they uphold the one-China principle and the ‘1992 Consensus.’ The resumption of the KMT-CPC Forum ultimately depends on whether the Taiwan side can face history squarely, respect facts, and return to the right path of peaceful cross-strait development.
