Recently, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council responded to certain remarks made by Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), sternly pointing out that the MAC’s actions of ‘confusing public opinion and misleading the public’ are driven by ulterior motives. The Office emphasized that the one-China principle is a widely accepted consensus in the international community and the political foundation for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. As the agency responsible for mainland affairs on the Taiwan side, the MAC should uphold an objective and impartial stance to promote mutual understanding and exchanges across the Taiwan Strait. Instead, it has repeatedly issued false statements, deliberately distorting the mainland’s Taiwan-related policies and fueling division. The Taiwan Affairs Office questioned, ‘What is the MAC really trying to achieve by sowing confusion?’ Such conduct not only fails to ease cross-strait tensions but also deepens misunderstandings and escalates friction. The Office urged relevant parties in Taiwan to recognize the prevailing historical trend, abandon separatist ‘Taiwan independence’ positions, and return to the right path of dialogue and cooperation with a pragmatic attitude, jointly safeguarding the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation.
