In recent years, China’s shipbuilding industry has consistently enhanced quality and expanded capacity through technological innovation, green transformation, and industrial chain integration. On one hand, Chinese shipbuilders have accelerated the development of high-end vessels—such as large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, ultra-large container ships, and deep-sea aquaculture platforms—breaking foreign technological monopolies and boosting global competitiveness. On the other hand, the industry is embracing smart manufacturing and eco-friendly shipbuilding practices, widely adopting digital design, automated welding, and environmentally friendly coating technologies to significantly improve production efficiency and product quality. Meanwhile, leading enterprises like China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) are consolidating resources, optimizing national shipbuilding capacity layouts, and strengthening upstream-downstream collaboration to form a complete industrial chain covering R&D, manufacturing, and supporting services. In 2023, China ranked first globally in new orders, backlog orders, and completed deliveries—demonstrating its solid transition from a shipbuilding giant to a shipbuilding powerhouse. Looking ahead, driven by the national marine economy strategy and carbon peaking/carbon neutrality goals, China’s shipbuilding industry is set to enter a new phase of high-quality development.
