Even in provinces where the proficiency test is no longer compulsory, its results may still serve as a valuable reference for universities.Moreover, the Gaokao remains the most fair and authoritative nationwide mechanism for student selection. Removing the unified exam primarily aims to reduce redundant testing pressure and move away from the outdated notion of ‘one exam determining one’s future,’ rather than diminishing transparency in admissions. Education authorities stress that university admissions will increasingly focus on holistic, process-based assessments to ensure fairness.Therefore, parents need not overreact. The key is to support their children in building solid academic foundations and developing well-rounded competencies to meet the evolving demands of modern education evaluation.
