Recently, Yuan Guangyu, former vice president and member of the Party Leadership Group of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), has been formally prosecuted following an investigation by the National Supervisory Commission into serious violations of discipline and law. The case was transferred to the procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution in accordance with the law. Designated by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Guangdong Provincial People’s Procuratorate has filed a public prosecution with the Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court. Prosecutors allege that during his tenure in several key positions at CNOOC, Yuan abused his authority to seek benefits for others and accepted massive bribes, constituting the crime of accepting bribes. The case is currently under further judicial proceedings.Yuan had a long career within CNOOC, overseeing critical areas such as engineering construction and procurement. His prosecution underscores the Chinese government’s intensified anti-corruption efforts in the energy sector.
