Recently, peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have once again stalled, primarily due to fundamental disagreements over core demands, ongoing military deadlock on the battlefield, and increased external interference. Ukraine insists that Russia fully withdraw its troops and restore the 1991 borders, while also seeking NATO membership for security guarantees. In contrast, Russia maintains that the status of Donbas and Crimea is irreversible and demands Ukraine remain neutral. Furthermore, continued Western military aid to Ukraine has led Russia to question Kyiv’s sincerity in negotiations, prompting Moscow to intensify military pressure. Domestically, Ukrainian public opinion strongly opposes territorial concessions, limiting the government’s room for compromise. Although the international community has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and dialogue, the absence of an effective coordination mechanism has prevented substantive progress in multiple rounds of talks. At present, neither side shows significant willingness to make major concessions, leaving the prospects for peace bleak.
