Its early symptoms resemble those of influenza, making timely diagnosis challenging—hence the critical need for rapid and accurate detection methods.Dr. Zhang emphasized that NGS offers high-throughput, high-sensitivity analysis without requiring prior knowledge of the pathogen, enabling swift identification of viral genomes during emerging outbreaks. This means that even novel or rare viruses like Nipah can be identified within days, providing crucial time for public health responses. In recent years, China has significantly invested in pathogen surveillance networks and laboratory infrastructure, establishing a nationwide rapid-response system.Although no Nipah virus cases have been reported in China to date, experts warn that frequent global travel poses ongoing importation risks. Strengthening border quarantine, enhancing frontline clinicians’ diagnostic awareness, and leveraging advanced sequencing technologies for early warning systems are essential strategies to combat emerging infectious diseases.
