The pact is expected to address modern trade issues such as data flows, intellectual property rights, labor standards, and environmental sustainability—reflecting the trend toward 21st-century, high-standard trade rules.Nonetheless, challenges remain, including India’s concerns over opening its agricultural and services sectors, the EU’s demands for data localization and regulatory transparency, and disagreements over climate policies like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Despite these hurdles, both sides have demonstrated strong political will and aim to conclude core negotiations by the end of 2024, laying an institutional foundation for EU-India relations over the next decade.
