Recently, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced a plan to invest over RMB 100 billion in Hainan Province, focusing on nuclear power, clean energy, and nuclear technology applications. This major investment aligns with China’s national ‘dual carbon’ strategy—peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality—and supports Hainan’s development as a national pilot zone for ecological civilization and a clean energy island. The initiative includes constructing new nuclear power plants, establishing an advanced nuclear energy R&D center, and building industrial bases for nuclear medicine and isotope production. Implementation will occur in phases over the next 5 to 10 years. CNNC emphasized that all projects will adhere to the highest international safety standards, ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development.
