Recently, the Liaoning Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health alert regarding Nipah virus protection, urging the public to enhance awareness of this zoonotic pathogen. Nipah virus is an RNA virus transmitted primarily by fruit bats. It can spread through direct contact with infected animals (such as pigs) or their secretions, consumption of contaminated food (e.g., fruits tainted by bat saliva), and human-to-human contact. Infected individuals may experience symptoms including fever, headache, respiratory distress, and encephalitis, with a high fatality rate in severe cases. Key preventive measures highlighted by Liaoning CDC include: avoiding contact with potentially infected animals and their excreta, refraining from consuming unwashed or unknown-source raw fruits; maintaining personal hygiene such as frequent handwashing; and seeking immediate medical attention with a history of exposure if symptoms occur. Although no cases have been reported in Liaoning so far, strengthened monitoring and public education remain crucial to preventing potential importation risks.
