According to the latest notice from China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), domestic gasoline and diesel prices will be reduced effective at 24:00 today. This marks another price cut in 2024, with gasoline and diesel prices lowered by approximately RMB 150 and RMB 140 per ton, respectively. At the retail level, this translates to a reduction of about RMB 0.12 per liter for Grade 92 gasoline, RMB 0.13 for Grade 95 gasoline, and RMB 0.12 for Grade 0 diesel. The price adjustment is primarily driven by shifts in global crude oil supply and demand dynamics. Recently, slowing global economic growth expectations, coupled with news of increased production from certain oil-producing countries, have pushed international oil prices downward. Additionally, a stronger U.S. dollar has exerted downward pressure on dollar-denominated crude prices. As China’s refined oil pricing mechanism is linked to international markets, domestic prices follow suit. For average drivers, refilling a standard 50-liter tank of Grade 92 gasoline will now cost about RMB 6 less. While the immediate savings appear modest, frequent drivers and logistics companies may experience noticeable relief in fuel expenses. Analysts note that future oil price trends will continue to be influenced by geopolitical tensions, OPEC+ policy decisions, and the pace of global economic recovery, likely resulting in continued short-term volatility.
