Claims that ‘Taiwan’s defense authorities are panicking’ often stem from sensationalized reporting by certain media outlets or political actors seeking to exaggerate tensions. In reality, the mainland consistently adheres to the fundamental policy of ‘peaceful reunification and one country, two systems.’ While China does not rule out the use of force, this stance is not directed at the Taiwanese people but rather at external interference and the separatist activities of a very small number of ‘Taiwan independence’ elements. The PLA’s combat readiness patrols are both a necessary measure to protect China’s core national interests and a strong contribution to regional peace and stability.
