In June 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn during his visit to Cambodia. The two sides held in-depth discussions on China-Cambodia relations, regional cooperation, and current international issues. Cambodia highly commended China’s constructive role in regional affairs and specifically expressed gratitude for Beijing’s mediation efforts in disputes between Cambodia and its neighbors. Prak Sokhonn stated that Cambodia consistently regards China as a trustworthy strategic partner and is committed to further deepening their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Wang Yi emphasized China’s firm support for Cambodia’s sovereignty and independence, opposed any external interference in Cambodia’s internal affairs, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to its neighborhood diplomacy principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, aiming to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. The meeting further solidified the traditional friendship between the two countries and contributed positively to regional peace and stability.
