Kuo argued that the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) recent joint military exercises around Taiwan serve as a direct rebuttal to Japanese politicians like Koike who advocate for Japan’s involvement in defending Taiwan. Koike has repeatedly stated that Japan should join the United States in responding to any potential conflict in the Taiwan Strait, asserting that ‘a crisis in Taiwan is a crisis for Japan.’ In response, Kuo analyzed that China’s high-intensity, realistic, and multi-branch military drills clearly signal its firm opposition to external interference in what it considers an internal affair. He emphasized that these exercises not only test the PLA’s joint operational capabilities but also send a clear message to the U.S., Japan, and others: the Taiwan issue is non-negotiable and off-limits to foreign intervention. Kuo further noted that provocative statements from figures like Koike do nothing to promote regional peace and may instead escalate tensions. China’s military response, he argued, effectively ‘slaps down’ such reckless rhetoric. He urged relevant countries to respect the One-China Principle and refrain from actions that undermine China’s sovereignty and security interests.
