Recently, Chongqing’s port cargo throughput has surpassed 240 million metric tons, reaching a historic high. This milestone not only highlights Chongqing’s pivotal role as a shipping hub in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River but also reflects the robust logistics demand and regional synergy driven by the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. Strategically located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, Chongqing serves as a critical node along the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. In recent years, the city has significantly enhanced its port capabilities through optimized port layouts, improved multimodal transport efficiency, and smart port initiatives. In 2023, major terminals such as Guoyuan Port and Cuntan Port underwent continuous expansion and upgrades, with container throughput also rising steadily—providing strong support for both international trade and domestic distribution. Furthermore, the seamless integration of the China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu-Chongqing), the New Western Land-Sea Corridor rail-sea services, and the Yangtze River waterway has reinforced Chongqing’s strategic position as a key connector between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Moving forward, Chongqing will continue advancing green and intelligent transformation of its ports to support a new development paradigm featuring mutually reinforcing domestic and international circulations.
