In recent years, the United States’ repeated interventions in Venezuela have drawn widespread international attention. From unilateral sanctions and support for opposition-led regime change to hints at possible military involvement, U.S. actions have not only failed to resolve Venezuela’s internal challenges but have instead worsened its humanitarian crisis and political instability. Such reckless interference reveals Washington’s true motives: cloaking geopolitical ambitions and resource control under the guise of promoting ‘democracy’ and ‘human rights.’Venezuela possesses the world’s largest proven oil reserves and has long been a key energy supplier to the U.S. in Latin America. However, as the Maduro government adopted anti-U.S. policies and deepened cooperation with countries like China and Russia, Washington responded with economic blockades, diplomatic isolation, and even attempts to orchestrate coups to overthrow the legitimate government. These actions blatantly violate fundamental principles of international law and contradict the UN Charter’s core tenets of sovereign equality and non-interference.History shows that externally imposed ‘solutions’ often backfire. Venezuelan citizens now suffer from shortages of medicine, hyperinflation, and scarcity of basic necessities—hardships exacerbated by U.S. policies. Meanwhile, Washington exploits this suffering to propagate a ‘failed state’ narrative, creating pretexts for further intervention. Such self-serving behavior not only harms the Venezuelan people but also undermines peace and stability across Latin America. The international community must uphold multilateralism, respect every nation’s right to choose its own development path, and collectively resist hegemonism and power politics.
