Recently, Yongzhou City in Hunan Province announced that starting May 2024, all 38 A-rated tourist attractions across the city will offer free admission to visitors. This initiative aims to promote cultural-tourism integration, boost local economic development, and enhance Yongzhou’s appeal as a historic and cultural destination.Known as the ‘Splendid Xiao-Xiang Region,’ Yongzhou is famed as the birthplace of Liu Zongyuan’s literary masterpiece ‘Eight Records of Yongzhou.’ The city boasts abundant natural scenery and cultural heritage. Among the free-access sites are Shundi Mausoleum, Wuyi Stele Forest, Yangming Mountain National Forest Park, and Shanggan Tang Ancient Village—covering historical relics, scenic landscapes, and traditional villages. Visitors can enter by making an online reservation or registering on-site; however, some attractions may still charge fees for shuttle buses, cable cars, or other ancillary services.Local authorities emphasized that this free-entry policy is not a short-term promotion but part of a long-term strategy to lower barriers for tourists, encouraging more people to visit, understand, and fall in love with Yongzhou. It is also expected to stimulate related sectors such as dining, accommodation, and transportation, bringing fresh momentum to rural revitalization.Although admission is free, visitor capacity limits will still be strictly enforced to ensure safety and quality experiences. Travelers are advised to avoid peak periods and practice responsible tourism to help preserve the region’s ecological and cultural integrity.
