According to recent forecasts, the economic output of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is expected to surpass RMB 15 trillion by 2025, reinforcing its status as one of China’s—and the world’s—most dynamic and innovative economic regions. This growth is driven by a highly integrated industrial ecosystem, an increasingly business-friendly environment, and strong policy support from national strategies such as the Outline Development Plan for the GBA. Spanning Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and nine cities in Guangdong Province, the GBA covers approximately 56,000 square kilometers and is home to over 86 million people. It boasts a robust manufacturing base, world-class port clusters, and global financial hubs like Hong Kong. In recent years, technological innovation has become the core engine of growth, with cities such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou making significant advances in artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and new energy sectors. Infrastructure connectivity is also accelerating, with major projects like the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge greatly enhancing regional integration. By 2025, the GBA is not only projected to reach a new GDP milestone but also set benchmarks in institutional innovation, green and low-carbon development, and global competitiveness, playing a pivotal role in China’s dual-circulation development strategy.
