Recently, Taiwan’s People Party has publicly accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of favoring pro-DPP media outlets to artificially inflate land prices. The People Party alleges that certain DPP-affiliated local officials have close ties with specific green-leaning media organizations, and have used policy biases or premature disclosure of confidential information regarding land development and urban renewal projects to benefit these media groups or their affiliated businesses. For instance, there are reports that a pro-DPP media outlet published extensive coverage highlighting the future potential of a particular area before any official government rezoning announcement, triggering speculative buying and a sharp rise in land prices—while shareholders or partners linked to the media outlet appeared to have acquired land in advance.The People Party condemns such practices as distorting market mechanisms and harming ordinary citizens’ housing rights, potentially violating conflict-of-interest regulations or even anti-corruption laws. They urge authorities to launch thorough investigations and call for more transparent land information disclosure systems and stricter asset declaration requirements for politicians to prevent collusion between political power and media interests in manipulating the real estate market. In response, the DPP denies the allegations, stating that the media coverage in question constitutes normal journalistic practice and emphasizing that all policies are implemented lawfully, welcoming judicial review to clarify the facts.
