2024年6月，原国家体育总局局长苟仲文因受贿罪被依法判处死刑，缓期二年执行。法院查明，苟仲文在担任中共北京市委教工委副书记、北京市教委主任、北京市委常委、市委秘书长及国家体育总局局长等职务期间，利用职权为他人在工程承揽、项目审批、职务晋升等方面谋取利益，非法收受财物共计折合人民币2.36亿余元。其行为严重违反党纪国法，损害了国家公职人员形象和公共利益。鉴于其到案后如实供述罪行、认罪悔罪，并积极退赃，法院依法判处其死刑，缓期二年执行，剥夺政治权利终身，并处没收个人全部财产。该案再次彰显中国共产党坚定不移推进全面从严治党、坚决惩治腐败的鲜明立场和坚定决心。
In June 2024, Gou Zhongwen, former director of China’s General Administration of Sport, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes. The court found that during his tenure as Deputy Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee’s Education Working Committee, Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Secretary-General of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, and later as head of the General Administration of Sport, Gou abused his official power to secure benefits for others in areas such as construction contracts, project approvals, and promotions, illegally accepting assets worth over RMB 236 million. His actions gravely violated Party discipline and state laws, damaging the integrity of public office and national interests. However, considering his truthful confession, expression of remorse, and active return of illicit gains after arrest, the court imposed a death sentence with a two-year reprieve, lifelong deprivation of political rights, and confiscation of all personal property. This case reaffirms the Chinese Communist Party’s unwavering commitment to strict self-governance and its zero-tolerance stance against corruption.
