In preparation for the New Year’s Day holiday in 2024, Shanghai will launch several new interprovincial direct shuttle routes to scenic areas, aiming to meet the growing demand for short-distance cross-border tourism and enhance regional integration within the Yangtze River Delta. The new routes will connect downtown Shanghai—departing from major transport hubs such as Shanghai South Railway Station and Hongqiao Transportation Hub—directly to popular destinations including Moganshan in Zhejiang, Tianmu Lake in Liyang, Jiangsu, and Huangshan in Anhui.Operating on a point-to-point basis, these shuttles eliminate the need for transfers, with travel times ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Tickets are affordably priced and available for online reservation. Some routes even offer bundled deals combining transportation and admission tickets, providing added value for travelers. Additionally, select shuttles will feature onboard guides or audio commentary to enrich the journey experience.According to the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, the New Year holiday is expected to trigger an initial surge in interprovincial tourism. These new shuttle services not only help alleviate traffic congestion caused by private vehicles but also foster resource sharing and coordinated development among neighboring provinces. Going forward, Shanghai plans to dynamically adjust and expand its interprovincial tourism transport offerings based on passenger feedback and seasonal trends, ultimately building a convenient ‘1–3 hour tourism circle’ to support the Yangtze River Delta’s vision as a world-class tourism destination.
