Recently, another Chinese city is poised to join the ‘trillion-yuan GDP club,’ drawing widespread attention. A ‘trillion-yuan city’ refers to a city whose gross domestic product (GDP) exceeds RMB 1 trillion. To date, 24 cities nationwide—including Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Suzhou—have achieved this milestone. Reaching the trillion-yuan GDP mark reflects not only economic scale but also a city’s comprehensive competitiveness, industrial resilience, and potential for sustainable growth.The expansion of the ‘trillion-yuan club’ also highlights the success of China’s regional coordinated development strategy—cities in central and western regions, as well as non-tier-1 coastal cities, are narrowing the gap with traditional megacities through differentiated development paths.
